Joy has over fifteen years of experience working in prevention, youth development, education, and outreach across a wide-range of issues including (but not limited to) human trafficking, out-of-school time, gun violence prevention, and workplace & career readiness, and juvenile justice. Her work has included coalition building, outreach to underrepresented groups, strategic planning, policy development & alignment, research, and capacity building. Specializes in environmental, policy and other systems approaches to community-based prevention.
In 2010, Joy served as the lead staff in garnering recognition as a Finalist of the Reinhard Mohn Prize for “Vitalizing Democracy” for the City of Hampton’s deliberative governance efforts focused on youth civic engagement opportunities. In addition, she also was part of the team that collaboratively planned, developed, and executed a youth engagement model for Pearl Bailey Library which won the National Arts & Humanities Youth Programs Award in 2013. Joy is also a trainer for the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth.
Education Design Consultant
Alicia has over 10 years’ experience working in human services, education, youth development and outreach in various capacities. Her work has included, but not limited to, parenting education, counseling at risk youth and families, workplace and career readiness, collaborating with community partners and facilitating team building activities. Alicia specializes in providing supportive services to military children and families in the public school setting and building collaborative relationships with military affiliates.
In 2012, Alicia played an integral role in the collaboration of Second Lady of the United States, Dr. Jill Biden and Admiral Winnefeld’s visit to an elementary school. The following year, she organized a trip to Washington D.C. where students and staff attended the Kid’s Inaugural Concert and supported their fellow classmate in introducing Dr. Jill Biden. Alicia holds a B.S. in Human Services/Management and a Master’s in Public Health.
